Brazil kicks off higher LNG imports in advance of World Cup

Featuring Desmond Wong

March 25, 2014 12:47:00 EST (3:43 mins)

Brazil historically enters the spot market for LNG cargoes when its hydro levels fall too far to support power generation. Atlantic basin LNG editor Desmond Wong explains how 2014 is different: the country is importing more LNG in an effort to conserve its hydropower, all part of a strategy to prepare for the massive power surge that will come during the World Cup this summer.

CORRECTION: Desmond's reference to Brazilian LNG imports at 0:59 and 1:07 should be billions, not trillions.
