Supply uncertainty, new demand could lift Mideast, Asian LNG markets this winter

With Max Gostelow and Stephanie Wilson

August 04, 2015 00:10:48 EST (9:05)

Low demand for spot LNG and a steady stream of term contracts cargoes has kept prices, including the Platts' JKM Marker, from becoming volatile this year, but will winter pick up the pace? Platts pricing analyst Max Gostelow joins Asia LNG managing editor Stephanie Wilson to assess the market, including how prices compare to previous years and where demand may increase later in the year. This year has seen the lowest volatility in LNG pricing since Platts started assessing the JKM in 2009, but additional demand coming from the Middle East and South Asia and increased demand from existing buyers from India and the Middle East could drive prices to become more volatile.
