What's driving volatility in oil prices

Oil price volatility has jumped to its highest levels since January 2009, and there's been an explosion of trading on the futures exchanges. But Platts Chief Content Officer Martin Fraenkel points out that the daily price volatility is separate from a strong downward price trend. Here, Fraenkel looks at issues that are impacting the price, such as unknowns about production from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, and the US, as well as demand uncertainties from China. What will it take to quiet the volatility in the crude markets?
